Construction of a School thanks to our Donors

Can you imagine sending your children on a one-and-a-half-hour walk to school along a busy highway? Probably not. This is exactly why many children in a poor, rural area near Freetown never attended school.

The Initiative Begins
Pastor Abu Bockarie, whom we have known for many years, had connections to the affected villages and approached the Klepper family about supporting the construction of a school (Stephie Klepper is our treasurer at CAA Germany).
At first, 27 children were taught in four classes in a temporary barrack-style building.
In November 2023, we visited the school as part of our municipal partnership between Bo in Sierra Leone and Aschaffenburg in Germany—a long-term exchange program for projects, education, and cooperation between the two cities (more about this in our latest blog article)—and brought small gifts for the children.
Growth and Progress
Today, five female teachers are teaching around 100 children in exchange for a small stipend. The Kleppers are currently in the process of finding sponsors for the teachers. After the rainy season, construction of a new school building began, and progress is promising.
Planned School Building
The new building will include six classrooms, a kitchen, and a well. Responsibility for the project has since been handed over to our partners in Aschaffenburg, One Day e.V., who already have experience in building schools.
A Major Donation Makes the Difference
The company Pass was particularly generous, donating €25,000 during an event at the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. A huge thank-you from the many children who will benefit from this support!

Support and Donations
We hope that additional donations will help secure not only the completion of the building but also the ongoing operation of the school, including materials and meals for the children. The surrounding villages are also in urgent need of support, for example in providing healthcare for the children.
Anyone who would like to support the project can donate directly to One Day e.V. with the reference “New Hope School.”
