In communities across Colombia, the lingering effects of trauma—especially among women who have survived domestic and gender-based violence perpetuated by the guerrilla and other local violent subversive forces are profound, and access to compassionate, evidence-based mental health care remains limited or nonexistent. That’s where Commit and Act Colombia (CAA Colombia) steps in: with heart, evidence-based practices supported in science, and community at the center of change.
What Is CAA Colombia?
Commit and Act’s latest project in Colombia is strengthening mental health support by empowering health care workers and providing direct services to a group of 355 women affected by trauma in Chia, Colombia. Our mission focuses on helping this group of women who are single mothers, survivors of domestic and gender-based violence, and others facing significant mental health challenges, heal so they can support their families. By combining trauma-informed care, community involvement, and ongoing research, we are helping them find hope, resilience, and empowerment, bridging gaps in mental health care while building local capacity for real and lasting impact.

How Your Support Makes a Difference
CAA Colombia’s work is rooted in both science and compassion through different programs. Your support helps:
Train health care workers, community leaders, and professionals in trauma-informed, evidence-based practices.
Provide each participant with individual and group therapy sessions.
Offer the FREE healing workbook “Manual de Costura para Mujeres Rotas”, designed to support deeper emotional recovery.
Combine clinical care with community involvement and research to refine and improve services.
Thanks to generous support, this past year, over 350 women in Chía, Cundinamarca are already participating in programs that promote resilience, self-empowerment, and personal growth. Our goal is to expand these services and reach other areas where we can continue providing them with tools to rebuild their lives with autonomy and well-being.
Here Is What One of Our Participants Has to Say
“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have received this trauma training, which allowed me to better understand my brain, emotions, body, and mind in the face of adversity, trauma, and life’s challenges. Even more valuable has been gaining and truly owning practical strategies to cope with these experiences, process them, and rebuild myself. Thank you for this opportunity, as each lesson learned extends outward to others, including family members and those around me.”
